Happy Halloween
Let me start this off with on the right note. Today for Cecilia's first Halloween, she was a dalmatian. Yes indeed she was really cute, and it was fun to see her in her little costume. If I'm really cool, I'll put up some pictures of her and some of her cousins. No, we didn't actually take her anywhere to do any legit trick-or-treating, but we took her over to a sibling's home, and to my in-laws' home (I'm not counting a stop by a friend's house… it was pretty much a joke).
Parents who take a kid out to trick-or-treat, when they can't even walk, should be shot. Really, the activity is for the kids, and you can't convince me that your kid, that isn't even walking, is going to eat much of any of that candy.
For whatever reason, Halloween has been losing ground on my personal list of favorite days. I'm not really sure what it is, but I've got a good couple of ideas about it. It could be the lack of personal enjoyment that I could be getting out of the activities. Maybe I'll enjoy it more when I'm able to take my kid(s) out in the evening to do some of that stuff. It might be the lame stuff that goes on at work.
Apparently my department has won "awards" for their Halloween stuff each year for the past 3 or 4 or 5 years. I haven't been in this department long enough to see it all, but it can be a little excessive. Each year they pick a theme and go with it. Last year they had a pirate theme. I'm okay with pirates, but they decide to put a little lame twist on it. Their twist would have been something along the lines of changing Lord of the Rings to Lord of the Zings, and had it based on some dude that is full of one-liners. But not just based on that one-liner guy, they would have put in all the normal Lord of the Rings stuff too….. just following that same dumb twist. It's not okay to be Forrest Gump, let's call him Forrest Stump, and make him a paraplegic due to some war accident, or something like that. This year they did the same thing with Harry Potter. I'm just glad they didn't make it Hairy Potter… the story of a follicly-enhanced boy with an overly green thumb.
They pick these themes, then want people to go all out with them on it. Little do they know that I couldn't care less for the whole "let's decorate our cubicles and dress up since our lives are too boring and unengaging the other 364 days out of the year" thing. I guess I shouldn't say "boring". I just don't get my thrills off of decorating my cubicle. Anyway, with these forced themes, and expectations of going all-out on something… I just have lost interest in the whole thing. Maybe it's the company that I work for. I used to be the one that drove the cubical decorations and stuff like that. Now I'd rather just… do nothing. Whatever.
By the way, I'm not all that into the mass amounts of candy on the day either. Potlucks at work generally suck, since there isn't ever a decent coordination of food. 4 crock-pots full of chili? How many people do you think are into having a bad case of anal propulsion in the afternoon? Good planning there.
