Elbow Mama's Eyebrow

They're not exactly the words that would lead a person to be able to carry on amazingly special and precious conversations forever, but at least they're words. I can't promise that I'll document each new one that comes up, but these are the latest and greatest. She might not say her R's the best, or be that consistent in pronouncing them, but it's really cool to hear her say these things.

She's all about pointing at body parts and having you say the name of them. It might sometimes be the other way around, but the point is, that she's into that sort of thing. It couldn't have been even a week ago, and Cecilia and I were doing this exact routine, and I brought up "elbow". She gave me the usual look of "I don't know where that is" look, and so we talked about elbows. I showed her mine, and I pointed out hers, but that was pretty much the end of it. Here on Thursday, Maria was changing Cecilia's diaper, and Cecilia pointed at Maria's elbow and happily named it. Unaware the this had been discussed, it slightly threw Maria for a loop, which meant that I got a phone call shortly thereafter.

Eyebrows are different. She's been able to point those out for a while, but it was just this week that she started to say that as well. Personally I think it's really cool, since they're two syllable words, even though they may be really simple ones.

On a related, yet unrelated note, Cecilia has finally started to say "mama" consistently. It took her, from Maria's point of view, WAY too long to get there, but at least she's saying it. It only irks me a little, since I'm not the most special one in the house any more. I feel that she talks about her now more than she talks about me. I guess this is something I need to bring up with my shrink… if I had one… which I guess I do, since I'm writing these entries to a computer. At least you don't charge me $100/hour to read this stuff.

does she actually say elbow, or does she pronounce it belbow, like Liza did for the longest time?

It is the conversation of the angels when they learn to talk since it is simple statements either out of need or interest. They say things only parents who listen and watch can understand... and they are crystal clear when given those dynamics. It is very distressing to me to talk with Abby who is a good talker via the telephone- in that mode I may get 50%... yet when she and I are together each word is in context of what is going on around her and I get it... I bet it would be the same if I talked to Liza via a phone rather than an ichat gadget... How grateful I am for modern technology that allows me to "see" the change and listen to the growth as they explore their worlds vocally...

First come one-syllable words, then come two-syllable words, then come phone calls about how she wants to stay out later and borrow the car. They grow up so fast...

Congrats on the baby dev. Be sure to upgrade her firmware when she gets potty trained.
