Overdue Cecilia Update
I haven't given an update on Cecilia in a while, and there are quite a few things I should mention. To let you in on what I'm going to talk about…
- Her speach development is moving right along
- She's a quirky little girl
- She body slams me in order to get me to tickle her
Overall there is quite a bit to talk about. I'll discuss the items in that order, so read/skip what you do/don't want to read.
Up until fairly recently, Cecilia was limited to just 1 word at a time. Granted, for being her age she doesn't pronounce things very well even as it is. Lots of what she talks about is directly in her eye-sight. It's no longer just "mo" (more), but now it's "mo chee" (more cheese). With the two words comes a better understanding of what she's talking about. The ability to say two words comes at the same time as the improved pronunciation. One of my favorite things is that she'll say "billow" for "boy". (Un)fortunately she's improving her speech and starting to say "boy" at times. It's really cool to hear these improvements since it seems to make her more of a little person.
Yesterday she got new shoes. They're just shoes, but they look more like kid shoes instead of baby shoes. Either way, she now really likes to put her shoes on by herself. Thanks to the mighty powers of Velcro, she can put them on, take them off, and put them on the wrong feet. Yesterday she demanded that any diaper changes only happen in the bathroom. She likes to eat string cheese, but only wants it if you're willing to give her the cheese with half of the wrapper still on. She doesn't like it if you help her peel down her bananas – she'll do that on her own (and hand you the individual pieces of the peel. She likes to take her little stuffed bear and buckle him into her seat at the table. She'll put a bib on him, and then want to attach the tray. If you clear your throat, she'll clear hers with a very concentrated look on her face. She's nice enough to point out whenever she burps or "tut"s (toots).
I enjoy tickling Cecilia. She's got a great little hearty laugh. I gather that she enjoys it as well, since she'll encourage me to do it. As I'm laying on the floor, like watching TV, or just laying there doing nothing, I can hear her start to make more and more noise as she runs across the room to come and body slam me. Once she's on me she'll just wait. If I don't do anything, then she'll roll over so she's laying on her back. She's still small enough I can pick her up and tickle her in the air. The trick of course is that she claims she is "ah duh" (all done) almost the instant you touch her. Just like a dog in anticipation of being scratched, she'll lay down on her back on the floor and wait for me to tickle her more. If I stop, she's right back asking for "mo". She'll run almost full speed at me expecting me to catch her. She'll let her body go totally limp as she goes away, just waiting for me to catch her as she falls. It's all pretty fun. Who could you rough-house with, if you can't rough-house with your dad?
That's what dads are for. And that's why every kid needs one.
and I get to see her again next week!
