Daylight Savings Time

We're batting .500 in our marriage when it comes to remembering daylight savings (or the return from it). This year was one of those that we forgot. As I look back at the timing of things, Maria was up at 5(6) something, I got up at 6(7) something, all so we could leave the house to be somewhere at 8:00(9:00). I made the comment, “Not too many people out today.” That was the point that I thought to myself… “Wasn't daylight savings time going to end here pretty soon? Was that today? I should get out my cell phone and check the time.” and Maria said, “Ohhhhhhhh, dangit!” We drove around for the next hour, not wanting to be early, and not wanting to go home (otherwise we would have just wanted to go to bed). To celebrate the change, we did the whole day (as close as we could) to the previous time, and just acted like Daylight Savings Time ended on Monday. It was nice to get an extra hour of sleep… albeit a day late. Those chumps in Arizona & Hawaii don't know what they're missing… until spring shows up. Grrrr…

I am almost completely free of having this dilemma, I have atomic clocks where I can. I only have to change it on my car and motorcycle.

And to make matters worse they (the government) are switching it up next year (2007) so that we don't change the time until November.

As per webexhibits.org…
"On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete."

By the time the "study is complete" Hilary may be running the show and decide to change it back… cause she can.

lol

I hate this dumb time change thing. It's not like Ceci's clock changes. Now everything happens an hour earlier, and that includes getting up in the morning, really early in the morning. Grrr.

Having spent the last year living in Hawaii and skipping this whole changing of the clocks business, I can say I agree with it being slightly ridiculous - especially since kids' clocks don't change so easily. Amen for atomic clocks (as mine is by my bed), one less thing to change or worry about. Not switching back and forth is the best way to go, though
