You Really Shouldn't Go Trick-or-Treating If…

  • You can't say “Trick or Treat” - This goes mainly for infants and toddlers. *
  • You can't move yourself from door to door - Again for the young 'uns. Not walking yet? Ixnay. Besides your parents are going to eat it all anyway, and they're probably overweight as it is. *
  • You're old enough to wear deodorant (I was given my first stick in gym class in 7th grade) - I've heard a variety of time guidelines about this. I might be able to adjust this one to 8th grade as the last year.
  • You didn't dress up - I can understand it being cold and you wearing a coat on the outside/inside of your costume. But if you're just in jeans and a shirt like every other day? Scat.
  • You're on a cell phone while at a door - Don't have the time for me to give you some free candy? Funny, because neither do I.
  • You're just going to complain about the weather - A small price to pay for pounds of free candy.

*Pardonable if you're handicapped in some fashion

Many thanks to all of the trick-or-treaters who came to my home this year (and for the past 3 years for that matter) - 0

I agree...almost. My only issue after last night are kids that try to open your door when you don't open it the second they ring your bell. And what happened to the tricks?! I couldn't get anyone to do a trick.
PS. I will tell the CORN NUT girl that you said she is too old to go trick-or-treating :)

Hahaha... this is pretty funny. Good calls, Pedro.

I would have to agree with this one, I think its lame when people have babies and they have a bag, then again, next year I may just borrow one......

We used to keep a bag of potatoes available to give to those kids who were too old to be out begging... they were not cute, came too late and seldom dressed up... sorry- no candy for you- but I have a good enough memory about how those kids treated those who didn't play along that we just had potatoes in with the candy and tossed in the former... or a rock works too- right Charile Brown?

It's true. I cannot deny giving out potatoes. (also I can't deny that our house was egged one year on that night, possibly as a reaction to somebody not liking potatoes)

I will tell you what pisses me off....the kids that are all nice and then you give them candy and they ask for seconds.....dude neither your mom nor your dentist approve of one piece of candy let alone seconds. And especially if your not going to do some amazing trick.....like a disappearing act.

But the truth of the matter is, I really think trick or treating is on the way out. I passed 5 churches that were doing trunk or treat and there are enough freaks out there that it is too scary to let the little kiddies (8th grade or under) go roaming the town in search of free candy.

I will speak up for the toddlers, though: Exhibit A - my 2 1/2 year old. She can say trick or treat (though it sounds like "twick-a-tweet"), and technically can walk herself house to house, but would much rather be carried between homes (especially in light of scary decorations), and then walk herself that last 10 steps to the door. That being said, she loved, loved, loved it. We were ready to call it quits long before her. And the pounds of candy that outweigh her? A new game that has a lot of variations (see Pedro's blog about sorting M&Ms and the like), an excellent bargaining tool for completion of all meals, and of course fodder for the parents who froze their butts and carried her around so she could go. "Let's get MORE candy (said while her teeth are chattering, nose is bright red and runny, and the bucket is brimming)!"
