AIRPLANE! - At AMC Theatres - January 29 and February 1, 2011#

AirplaneatAMC.jpg For the dozens of times I've watched AIRPLANE! I've never been able to see it on the big screen. I wish I lived in a city/state where they had AMC theaters, just so I could go see one of my favorite movies. I hope my father takes advantage the opportunity. Shirley it's too good to pass up.  [Via]

Dimitri Tishchenko's Magnet Structures - (Flickr)#

Dimitri_Tishchenko.jpg Dimitri Tishchenko makes sure you'll always feel inferior when playing with Buckyballs (small super strong neodymium magnets). I admit I didn't look through all 721 photos currently in the set, but I'm sufficiently impressed.  [Via]

Back to the Future set from a Security Guard's Perspective#

BacktotheFutureBacklot_LousDiner.jpg "Hey McFly. I thought I told you never to come in here." This guy got a job as a security guard at Universal Studios when they were filming Back to the Future, and took some photos of the set in both of its versions (1955 and 1985). Very cool.  [Via]

A Victim Treats His Mugger Right : NPR#

juliodiaz450.jpg "Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you're going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm." I'd like to think I'd do the same in Diaz's position.  [Via]

A Day in the Future#

Raptitude_ADayintheFuture.jpg Sometimes we forget how fortunate we really are, and how amazing everything truly is.  [Via]

Albert Menes Sardines#

AlbertMenes_Sardines.jpg I love the detail on this package of sardines (scroll about a third of the way down on the linked page). Feels like a nice balance between busy details and white space. Although the company's site is in French, and you can't see any of their products close-up, it's clear that their whole line of seafood/fish products are designed in a similar way.  [Via]

World Famous Design Junkies - The Ace of Spades#

WFMJ_AceofSpades.jpg I like this collection of photos of the focal point of any deck of cards - the Ace of Spades. It'd be nice if the pictures were closer of the individual cards (and if their site weren't so appallingly slow).  [Via]

Sarah Bridgland - Design*Sponge#

SarahBridgland_SwinglineSF35Staples.jpg I saved this link back when it was originally posted (in June 2009), but never posted it. I thought the 3-D paper collages by Sarah Bridgland was very cool. I love the colors she uses, and the focus on type. She clearly has a great eye. Check out Sarah's Flickr stream for further proof.

Soap Flakes : Nathalie Stämpfli#

NathalieStampfli_SoapFlakes.jpg I despise soggy bars of soap, especially those intended for hand-washing. Apart from liquid soap (about which I have separate complaints), this is a great solution. Too bad it doesn't appear to be sold anywhere.  [Via]

"Band of Brothers" Inspiration, Maj. Dick Winters, Dies at Age 92#

MSNBC_MajorDickWinters.jpg I know I'm late to this, but I have to note the passing of an amazing man. I thoroughly enjoyed both the book and HBO miniseries, “Band of Brothers”. In both instances, it held the men of Easy Company, and their eminent leader, Major Dick Winters as what helps symbolize America. If he truly was even a shadow of what the stories told, we could each grow by emulating this man.  [Via]

iPhone "Extreme Metal" Cases - ElementCase#

ElementCase_ExtremeFrost.jpg I know these aren't anything new, but I thought of them again the other day, and just how cool they were the first time I saw them. Although these Extreme Metal are their best cases, I'd even settle for one of their standard Vapor cases.

Longbored Surfer - Links, now with Photos#

LongboredSurferLinks_Images.png I admit it. I've been collecting images to go along with most of my links. I've been collecting them almost ever since I started hosting my own links (in April of 2009). Instead of hording the images for myself, I figured, it'd make the links (and site) a bit more appetizing if I actually served them, instead of just keeping them stored in the system. Your RSS feeds should be automatically updated with the new photos, and the site now looks a bit less dull, now populated with a bunch of images. Happy 2011.
