2005.11.01 The Point of a University

For the most part, a university wouldn't exist without its students. They're the ones that pay the bills for the school. I attend a university that has no professors that perform research that is funded by the school. No other place could there be a finer example of a school that is entirely dependent on their students.

I can understand why people repeat some things. As a teaching or memory tool, it serves wonderfully. It helps to review things that have been discussed, check for understanding, whatever. What I can't understand is when people feel obligated to repeat stuff that has already been mentioned by way of an abbreviation. When's the last time you went to an ATM machine? There are several opportunities that you have to visit someone and their family. Recently I submitted a soap box called Hospital Visitors. There are certain things that people do during their visit that makes me nervous and with a new baby in the house. There may be several times during the day that one or two people may be sleeping because of the new schedule called life.

Who are they trying to fool? What is it that they're trying to hide? Do they think we've never seen a balding man before? Is it that there is some sort of secret alien-communications tool stealthily covered by that hair? Yes, we can all tell that the hair is really growing on one side of your head, and you're trying to cover up the middle of that chrome dome.

2005.08.18 The Toothless Wonder

Generally somebody who prepares food should have a general appearance which doesn't distract from the food being prepared. There is a plethora of people who shouldn't prepare food for others. The food service business should have a certain dress code, hair code, fingernail code, or even a policy that addresses missing teeth in the front of somebody's mouth, because the guy who works in the cafeteria is starting to make them lose business.
