I've spent too much time looking over this diagram, seeing how different dogs and breeds are related and connected. I'm not so much of a dog person that I'd want a print of this, but maybe you are. Regardless, it's really cool. #
68 thousand tweets were analyzed to find the distinction between the words of "geek" and "nerd". I tend to use the words interchangeably, but can clearly recognize the distinction. Be sure to see the hashtag analysis. It seems my interests are on the geeky side, but have several on the nerd side as well. #
A fascinating view of the pronunciations of words around the United States, done by Joshua Katz at North Carolina State University. Given my background, I wasn't surprised to see my own speech has origins in a rather mixed geography. I say "ben" (not "bin"), "pick-AHN", think that car-ml & carra-mel have two different meanings, say "mischievous" as three syllables, feel there is a difference between roundabout and traffic circle, have played mumbledy-peg (and called it that), call it a "roly poly", and definitely know the difference between a freeway and a highway. #
An impressive "encapsulation of [his] father's life, as communicated by the calendars, slides and other artifacts in [his] possession." He shows the original items in this Flickr photo, but has turned it into something more. I'd personally enjoy a mix of the designs and stats he's shown, along with scans and transcriptions of the actual items, in order to tell a more complete or comprehensive story (though it's probably a bit too personal to share in such a way with the entire interwebs). Either way, impressive work. #
A size comparison of 100 characters from various Pixar films/shorts. I can hear my kids watching WALL E as I type. #
An interesting glimpse into how our days are divided. I'd be interested to see a truly narrowed-down version of this, except I'm afraid it'd show just how little sleep I get, how much more I work, and how little time I spend exercising. #
Undoubtedly you'll see more about this elsewhere, but I was fascinated by what this search engine could do, as well as its potential. Be sure to watch the intro video to get a good idea of what it does. #
I pity the fool who doesn't laugh. #
I loved Girl Talk's Feed the Animals album, and am constantly fascinated by all the compilations of data and tributes to/about it. #
DO NOT TOUCH Not only will this kill you, it will hurt the whole time you're dying. Awesome sign. #
